At the still point of the turning world, there the dance is...

At the beginning of this New Year, I walked on the labyrinth of the St Lucia Retreat Centre mown through the grass facing the estuary of the Lake. Amazed at the twists and turns the labyrinth takes, coming closer to the centre in a wandering way, it reminded me of the twists and turns life takes.

Searching the path within the labyrinth has been symbolic of the mystical journey of our allotted time. It is a meandering drawn always into the “...still point of the turning world”, which lies in the eternal bosom of the God-Who-Is-Love. It is a prodigal wandering driven by the restless urgencies of life’s search for the identity of the child, which always remains eternal in the mind of God outside of time. In this labyrinthine way of life’s path this essential focus remains… “the still point of this turning world…Neither from nor towards”… but ”at the still point there the dance is.  Neither arrest nor movement…And do not call it fixity…Where the point and future are gathered…Neither movement from nor towards…Except for the point, the still point.” (T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets).

Walking and dancing this labyrinth, I do hope others may learn to listen to their mystical selves as they wander through the  mysteries of their own lives.
